Slow and steady wins the day

In the world of SEO, the race to the top spot isn’t a sprint—it’s a marathon. There’s no point in firing off the blocks so fast that you get worn out half way round as that won’t lead to the results you’re after, so keep it cool, casual and in control if you want to make your way up search engine hierarchy.

In the past, the only time you’d have been able to get ultra-quick results was if you engaged in more unethical SEO techniques. Paying for links, keyword stuffing and similar tactics might have given you a short-term boost and may have even helped you hang on in there for a while, but these days such techniques are heavily penalised. What with the Panda and the Penguin being on your back there’s no way you’ll be able to get away with anything less than a pearly-white strategy, so get those quick fixes out of your head right now—slow and steady always wins the day.
You need to focus on building a quality strategy from the ground up, and that’s always going to take some time and effort. Yes, it may be time-consuming but you need the right foundations in place if you’re going to stand a chance of succeeding, so think on a more long-term basis and you can’t go wrong. You’ll need to focus on creating quality content, building your community, boosting your reputation and authority in the industry and gaining backlinks the natural way, ultimately ensuring you’ve got a strategy that can live up to the scrutiny of even the toughest of Google algorithms.
Remember the tortoise and the hare? Yep, the same rule applies (and that’s the last analogy, promise). Try and do too much to quickly and chances you’ll be engaging in shady tactics that will ultimately mean you get you left behind, so let the more unethical types try to get ahead as you play it cool. If you have a clean, high-end SEO strategy you’ll soon catch them up and will have something even more important as a result—longevity.
