SEO Work – 5 Tips to keep working on SEO effectively
Posted by admin on August, 2nd 2010
Let’s face it SEO is usually a boring and some-what thank-less task!
Unless you’re creating an amazing viral campaign or writing about what you are passionate about, SEO work can quickly become a chore and many people quit after a few weeks of doing it.
Sticking to SEO work pays off in the long run but beware it can take at least 3-4 months to see vast improvements with a new site. For instance it can take many months before Google/Bing/Yahoo etc. even release a new site into the search engine results which can be very frustrating!
Here are my top 5 tips to keep working efficiently on SEO:
1. Be Persistent – Giving up is not an option with SEO, you have to persevere throughout many months of content writing, link building and self-promotion before you hit triple figures of traffic levels. Just think that every little bit of work towards your website cannot be un-done, each bit of work is turning the cog towards success so work on SEO daily and never give up, just think how much work would be done in a year if you spent an hour on your website everyday.
2. Be Patient – Results take time, especially as Google waits to mature links. If you want instant traffic to a website then stat a PPC (pay-per-click) campaign with services such as “Adwords” or employ a decent PR agency. SEO can take upto half a year to produce amazing results, an old existing site may take only 2-3 months as it has gained trust.
3. Be Sociable – Make friends and partnerships on as many levels as you can. Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook can be a great place to interact with people interested in your niche; you gain momentum when you gain more and more followers and each blog or news you produce will be read and linked to by many people naturally. People in your niche may create site-wide links to your site if you make friends with them and you can sypher off their readers and knowledge whilst sharing your own. Networking has other advantages too, you’ll have people to egg you on with blog writing and web promotion, it’s hard to get bored when you’re part of a close knit community and you’ll eventually become an authority figure on your subject if you keep learning about it.
4. Don’t Cut Corners - It’s tempting to cut corners with SEO; either by copying content, doing black hat SEO techniques or paying for backlinks. Any of these methods actually harms your SEO as search engines like Google are combating spam and manipulation techniques on a daily basis. Currently there is little you can do to cut corners with SEO, the work you put in will be the worth you get out afterwards, if you don’t like to create content then find someone who will do it for you! If you don’t want to perform back-linking or promotion to a website then perhaps buy an existing one which is doing well in the search engines already, SEO takes a lot of effort or can cost a lot of money.
5. Vary Your Work – Just performing one aspect of SEO won’t produce the best results, if you spend all of your time submitting articles then you are missing out on other forms of traffic and search engine rank promotion. Putting all your eggs in one basket is a risky business as things may change in the future of Google or any website you have gained links from. Be varied in your SEO work and you remove risk in the future, if you’ve gained 10,000 dofollow links then it may look suspicious to Google if you have say only 10 NoFollow links!
I hope these tips have been useful and you continue to work hard on SEO whilst trying to figure out what advice is good online and what are myths. Again reading a recent book on SEO will help you no end and skim over SEO blogs that have a good reputation and hundreds of followers. There is a lot of bad SEO advice online but the main thing is to carry on working and try and enjoy it along the way.
