Partner Links
Posted by admin on April, 1st 2011A great way of gaining lots of links quickly is partnering up with websites and adding your link into their site-wide footer or side bar.
A link within a WordPress blogroll for example would be displayed on every single page on the entire blog, this way you can get hundreds of links very quickly for your website with little effort. Some eCommerce sites has thousands of product pages and many powerful category pages that acquire PageRank over time, a partner link here could be very valuable, especially if it’s towards a related website.
Site-wide partner links will be (or already have been) de-valued slightly by Google. Many search marketing expos have mentioned that the position of the link and the surrounding text is an important factor, this means that a lonely link at the bottom of a website wouldn’t have nearly as much power as a block of text containing a link in the top right corner.
Partner links shouldn’t be confused with paid links on link farms. You can pay for your link to appear on a highly page ranked blog or website (along with a sentence about your company sometimes). These paid links usually feature alongside hundreds of other paid links on highly untrustworthy websites. Google cracked down on link farms many years ago but people desperate to get ahead in the search engines still use them on a mass scale which can lead to the sandbox effect from Google or a risk of a future penalty if done too often. The fact that hundreds of other links exist on the site even mean that each link receives very little power from the page anyway, 100 outbound links equals 1/100th of the power for each one!
So to takeaway:
- Get partner links from trusted and non-spammed sites
– Get partner links from related websites for an extra boost
- Use your main keyword as the anchor text for the link if possible to make it rank higher
- Place the links as high as possible on each page to make them more powerful
– Place the links within surrounding related text if possible to make them more powerful
