How to Sell SEO to Clients

It’s a small joke amongst SEO companies that we spend half of our time explaining how important SEO is to potential clients.

This isn’t far off the truth; selling SEO to clients can be an up-hill struggle especially when they are already using PPC (pay-per-click) advertising or traditional ‘real-world’ marketing methods such as magazines or radio.

The worth of web development, graphic design and SEO is also massively down-graded by some business owners, it may take half an hour to graphically design a decent logo but the many years of experience beforehand could make the logo cost a few hundred pounds or even more.  Using a computer to produce all aspects of a website isn’t simple, if you have a potential client moan that the web development is over-priced then beware even mentioning SEO!

Using an SEO company can cost more than the wage for a full-time employee so if you sell SEO then you need to justify this price.

Here at Real Web SEO we can’t give away any business secrets but we can tell you one thing, nothing is as impressive as proven results.  Being #1 in Google can win between 30-45% of the traffic for a certain keyword; if that keyword is a popular one then it can be extremely lucrative for any website in that position.

Producing impressive graphs of results can quickly visualise the worth of SEO to a client, you can see one of our real graphs on our homepage.  Also the proof is in the pudding, search with Google on the client’s computer and show your top keyword positions.  We are particularly proud of our client SunglassesSave.com reaching position #5 for “Sunglasses”, LittleFish Support reaching #2 for “IT support” and JunoWebDesign.com staying the #1 “Web Design” company in Nottingham.

Good luck in selling SEO, it’s a tough market and there are MANY cowboys out there who will only last 3-4 months before the client looks elsewhere, make sure you’re not one of them!
