SEO Paid Links – Are They Worth It?
Posted by admin on June, 1st 2010We’ve seen many odd SEO techniques that people use to try and “beat” Google in the search results attempting to gain high rankings with sneaky tricks.
Some SEO companies use paid links to gain a higher number of linkbacks for their website, Google’s biggest ranking factor.
You can pay for links in many ways; the old method of getting links on shifty “link farms” has fortunately been eradicated by Google, these “link farm” sites built up a large page rank and then sold links on their sites for a monthly fee passing on a part of the high page rank through the link.
Another method was to get onto WordPress blog rolls; you can get on the side of each blog post of a high page ranked blog with several hundred posts. We’ve seen examples of paid links on blogrolls but as each link costs say $50/month there are over 100 links on the blogroll! If there are for example 100 links on a blog then each link passes on 1/100th of the page rank power, a tiny fraction. Buying a link on a blogroll with very few out-bound links would be very expensive.
Many people ignore the fact that Google themselves state: “Don’t participate in link schemes designed to increase your site’s ranking or PageRank” – which can be found here.
If you really want lots of backlinks this way then you can try these methods:
- Create websites and add your link in the footer – the more you create, the more links you get plus the sites will be on many different ip addresses
- Create WordPress themes and add your link in the footer – again people love a clean WordPress design and many people won’t figure out how to remove your link
- Create a handy “Widget” and add in a backlink – make something that people want on their blogs, it may be a handy calculator or a countdown timer for example
- Make a Flash game – Good Flash games will be stolen and hosted around the Internet and Google can read any link in them – see our SEO viral page for more info
So are paid links worth it? Our answer is no, if you want to succeed in SEO then I’m afraid you’ll need lots of hard work!
