Get your Christmas strategy sorted
Posted by admin on September, 12th 2012OK, so we hate early Christmas adverts and shop departments as much as you do, but if you’re in the ecommerce arena you need to start thinking about the festive season. It’s really only a few weeks away and that means it’s time you got your strategy sorted, so put aside thoughts of Indian summers and instead turn your attention to jingle bells, Santa and all those lovely Christmas shopping opportunities…

Christmas is a notoriously good time of year for online retailers, but if you want to capitalise on the mass-buying mode you need to get things organised. You need to think about your target audience and should implement a tailored Christmas SEO strategy accordingly, with the first step needing to be keyword research.
If you want to stand a chance of ranking highly you need to decide what keywords and phrases you want to target (organic traffic takes a while to build up, after all), and make sure to think about what consumers will actually be searching for and what you’ve got to offer them. Do you stock Christmas gifts, clothes, crackers, decorations…? Whatever you sell, make sure to put a Christmassy spin on things and start getting those keywords optimised asap.
Make sure to get your USP out there as well—ideally you should be offering things like free delivery, discounts or a free gift with orders over a certain amount, because in such a competitive marketplace you need to be offering something extra to make sure you stand out. Always clearly highlight your unique selling points in your meta data to ensure they get picked up, doing everything you can to get your business noticed.
A simple strategy change could be all it takes to get your online operations ready for the Christmas rush, and don’t leave it too late—you may not want to think about your festive SEO strategy just yet but your competitors certainly will be, so don’t run the risk of being left behind and you could reap the rewards this festive season.
