Google’s May ’10 Update – Long Tail Keywords

At the beginning of May Google rolled out one of it’s many new updates and this effected many websites including RealWebSEO.com.

The update affects rankings for ‘long tail keywords’ over 3 words such as “sell and rent back“.  Before the May update Google would do an educated guess at the best webpages to rank for these keywords and usually land with big “authority” websites that mentioned the words on a certain page.

Currently Google looks at the order of the words in the long tail keyword – so if a user was searching for the term “biggest weight loss secret” then they may not land on a website that had a page mentioning the long-tail keyword “biggest secret weight loss”.

Again it pays to do some keyword research before setting up the main pages on your websites, we are huge fans of the Google Keyword Tool and will be writing a guide all about it in the upcoming week.
