Using Google's "Site" Function

Sometimes you may want to find a certain page or chunk of information on a website.  You could be looking for personal reasons or to see whether an online competitor is optimising for a certain keyword in their SEO efforts!

Let’s say you wanted to find out if a website “example.com” ever mentioned the word “chocolate” in the their text. Open up Google search and type in this phrase:

site:example.com chocolate

The “site:” function in Google doesn’t have to be used site-wide, it can be used on a specific page or folder too.
Let’s say you wanted to find out if the blog section of “example.com” has the word “banana” in it’s text. Open up Google search again and type in this phrase:

site:example.com/blog banana

You can use the “site:” function to enhance your SEO strategy. Think of a long tail keyword for your niche and then see if your competitor has it in there text. If they don’t then that’s an advantage you have over them and a new chance to gain some more all important traffic!

Good luck and don’t forget to keep playing with Google’s most useful features.
