How to Ruin Your SEO Efforts – Copied Content

Let’s face it, writing content for websites for most is a labourious & boring task!

If your employer sold for example cardboard boxes or reems of A4 paper your blog/news-page could be very, very boring and the temptation to cut corners would be massive.

Many people cut corners when it comes to SEO work, they may pay for links, steal content or pass the work over to a third party.  Stealing content is probably the worst way to cut corners with SEO as it’s so plain and clear to search engines such as Google that you are doing it!

Take a look at this Google search.
I’ve taken the text from an article about how to make money online and searched for it in speech marks.  You can see 55 people have used exactly the same text when you include the omitted search results!!

When a new blog post or article is submitted Google’s new caffeine indexing system is VERY quick at spotting who posted the content firstly, especially when services such as Ping’o'matic is connected by default to most blogs (Ping’o'matic notifies many search engines about new blog posts).  Unless you can submit a copied blog post within 5-10 seconds I cannot see how you could ever win the race at being the first person to release the content.

Copied content websites usually have a PageRank of zero which is a clear indication to how they’ve been affected by the duplicate content.  Copied content is certainly a negative ranking factor in Google and many news article hubs got hit hard when Google changed it’s algorithm which stamped out the copyright pirates.

So don’t be lazy and steal content for your website, even if you spin the content with different words and a different structure it could possibly be spotted and will harm your SEO.
