Choosing the right SEO company

To many people SEO is a complete mystery; a worryingly large amount of business owners don’t even know what search engine optimization is!For the website owners who do know the power of SEO there is usually a hard decision which SEO company to chose. Many people blindly go with the web design company who built their website not knowing that they could possibly know very little about SEO techniques or they may have built a badly optimized site in the first place.
Some companies promise hundreds of backlinks at a very low cost and say that the more backlinks you have, the higher you rank in search engines such as Google and Bing. This “fast track” SEO technique is usually carried out by Indian firms which do the very boring and tedious work of submitting your site to hundreds of directories and bookmarking sites. Unfortunately it does little to improve your rankings, the only cheap SEO method without too much hard word is creating an online viral which takes a large amount of skill or luck!
If you want to know if a service is good then look at their track record.
Reputation is key to service industries, if you do a good job then the news spreads about your good work to other people and they may use your service too. Would you rather use a builder who did a good job on your friend’s house or a random one out of the yellow pages? Would you buy a wedding cake without looking at previous cakes made first? Would you get a tattoo without looking at the artists previous work?
If you want to work with the right SEO company then look at their current clients and see how well they are doing. If the company boasts about ranking a website well for a long key-phrase such as “rainbow coloured umbrellas” then it’s not half as impressive as ranking that site highly for the single word “umbrellas”. If a website is ranking highly for single keywords such as “insurance”, “shoes”, “holiday” etc. then they must have a powerful SEO team behind them.

Real Web SEO – Page 2 in Google.co.uk for “SEO”

Around 6-7 weeks ago we noticed that our site RealWebSEO.com was top for the keyword “SEO Nottingham” but even more excitingly page #9 for the highly competitive term “SEO” by itself!So in the last month and a bit we optimised RealWebSEO.com for the keyword “SEO” as well as building a flurry of backlinks and blog posts. Real Web SEO had a make-over to convert more visitors into clients and the outcome has been very positive!
On the 10th of June 2010 this site reached page 2 in Google for “SEO” and we have set the aim to hit the first page in the next two months. It shows that it’s possible to target any major keyword online, one of our clients sunglassessave.com has now reached #5 in Google.co.uk for the one word term “sunglasses” which has rocketed sales no end.
Other recent successes include Controliss Blinds which have reached position 4 for “remote control blinds” and “remote controlled blinds” in less than 5 weeks with a brand new site.

Flash Websites – Great for looks, bad for SEO

There’s an epidemic online of Flash websites!World famous for being the worst possible way to design your website, Flash websites still appear everyday online. Their main disadvantage is what we specialise in here in our Nottingham office: on-site SEO.
Here’s a list of why you should think twice before paying for a Flash website:
- A Flash website has to be made offline and then uploaded as one whole movie – editing it can be a nightmare unlike a normal website
- Search engines cannot read Flash websites, Google and Yahoo make a good attempt at reading Flash websites now but still they are a struggle to spot any content or links within them
- You cannot link your twitter feed, email form, payment option etc. to Flash without a lot of expert work over a long time – in normal HTML all you have to do is drop in the code and then you’re done
- People cannot use most Flash websites – online surfers are used to blue links and scrolling, a fancy menu system on a Flash website can confuse visitors and is highly likely to get them leaving the site to ind a user friendly site
- Some people don’t even have the Flash player installed – 3.7% of visitors to RealWebSEO.com don’t have Flash installed according to Google Analytics!
Google know full well of all the issues surrounding Flash websites and they never seem to rank highly in the search engines.
